The situation
A customer's Lippert Unity X1 board had stopped working with the OneControl app. He wanted to know whether he needed a replacement board.
The short answer
You may need a replacement board — but try this first, because it costs nothing and fixes the problem more often than not. The Bluetooth pin between your phone and the board can become corrupted. Clearing it takes four steps in this exact order:
- Unpair the Bluetooth device
- Uninstall the OneControl app
- Reinstall the app
- Re-pair the device
If that restores the connection, the board was fine.
Why
The order is the whole trick. The corrupted pin lives in your phone's Bluetooth pairing record, not inside the app. If you delete the app first, that pairing record stays behind — and when you reinstall and reconnect, the app finds the same bad pin waiting for it and fails exactly the same way. People often try this twice, conclude the board is dead, and buy hardware they didn't need.
Unpairing first removes the corrupted record while it's still reachable. Only then does uninstalling the app clear the rest, so the reinstall starts from a genuinely clean pairing.
This is worth ruling out before spending anything, because a failed pin and a failed board look identical from the app's side: it simply won't connect. The same corrupted-pin behavior can occur on any of the Bluetooth OneControl boards, not just the Unity X1.
What to do
- Open your phone's Bluetooth settings — not the OneControl app. Find the Unity/OneControl device in your paired list and choose Forget or Unpair. Do this before touching the app.
- Uninstall the OneControl app from your phone.
- Reinstall the OneControl app from your app store.
- Re-pair the device through the app's normal setup flow.
- If it connects, you're done — the board was never the problem.
- If it still won't connect after a clean unpair-first cycle, the board itself is the likely fault. The Lippert OneControl Unity X1 Control Board (801171) is the genuine OEM replacement.
