What Replaces a Dometic Brisk II Air Conditioner?

The situation

A customer's Dometic Brisk II rooftop air conditioner had died. He wanted to know which current model replaces it and what accessories he needs to order alongside it.

The short answer

The Dometic FreshJet 3 is the direct replacement. Match your Brisk II's BTU rating and color and you have the right unit. Like the Brisk II, it does not come with a pre-installed control board — and in most cases you don't need one, because your existing board and thermostat carry over as long as they're digital.

Why

The FreshJet 3 is where Dometic's mainstream rooftop line landed after the Brisk II, and it's built the same way: the cooling unit sits on the roof, while the ceiling assembly and the control board are separate pieces. That's why "what else do I need" is a real question here rather than an upsell — the answer for most people is nothing.

What carries over. Your existing control board and thermostat will run the FreshJet 3 provided they're digital in some form. CT thermostats are the common case here, and either generation works. If that describes your setup, the air conditioner itself is the only thing you're buying.

The roof gasket is already handled. A gasket comes pre-installed on the FreshJet 3, as it does on all Dometic rooftop units. A separately sized gasket is only needed in the uncommon case of a curved roof.

What you might replace anyway. Two optional pieces come up often enough to mention:

• The ceiling air distribution box (ADB) — for ducted systems that's the 3318090.000 return air grille; for non-ducted it's the 9600028602. Rarely required. Replace it if yours is cracked, yellowed, or you want the interior to match a new unit.
• The control box and thermostat kit — 3316230.700 in white or 3316230.714 in black. Not required if your current controls work, but the older boards get more failure-prone with age. If you're already paying for the labor of a rooftop swap, doing the control side at the same time is the cheaper moment to do it.

What to do

1. Read the BTU rating off your Brisk II's data plate and note the shroud color. Those two things pick your model from the four above.
2. Determine whether your system is ducted or non-ducted. Ducted systems feed air through ceiling vents around the coach; non-ducted blows directly out of the ceiling assembly under the unit. This only matters if you're replacing the ADB.
3. Look at your thermostat. If it's a digital CT thermostat — either generation — keep it and your existing board. No further parts needed.
4. Order the matching FreshJet 3.
5. Add the ADB or CT kit only if you want them. Neither is required for a working install.
6. Have a qualified RV technician handle the rooftop install and verify the seal afterward. A rooftop AC swap is a sealing job as much as an electrical one.
