Restore reliable gas flow control on your Atwood Hydro Flame furnace with the Dometic Atwood 31098 OEM Hydro Flame Furnace Gas Valve. Genuine Dometic Atwood OEM gas valve with dual-solenoid design for secondary leak protection, integrated pressure regulator, and 12V DC operation. Broad compatibility across AFSD, AFSAD, AFMD, and DFMD Atwood furnace series.

What This Valve Does

The furnace gas valve controls the flow of propane to the burner based on 12V DC signals from the furnace control board. It:

  • Starts and stops the flow of gas to the burner in response to control board signals
  • Regulates gas pressure via integrated pressure regulator (9.5 to 10.5 in. WC)
  • Provides dual-solenoid backup protection against gas leaks through valve seals

⭐ Dual-Solenoid Design — Secondary Leak Protection

Critical safety feature: the dual-solenoid design provides secondary protection against gas leaking through the valve seals. Two valves perform the same task, so there is always a backup valve providing the needed protection. Meaningful safety margin over single-solenoid designs.

⭐ Integrated Pressure Regulator

An internal pressure regulator is attached to the valve, reducing the outlet pressure to between 9.5 and 10.5 in. WC — standard furnace operating pressure for consistent burner performance.

Physical Configuration

  • Side Outlet: Outlet is at a 90° angle from the inlet
  • Inlet: 3/8" Male Flare connection
  • Outlet: Female fitting for the orifice (orifice NOT included)
  • Nominal Dimensions: 2-3/4"W × 3-1/2"L × 2-7/8"

⚠️ CRITICAL — Three Valve Versions Exist, Compare Images

Important fitment note: there are three versions of gas valves applicable to the models listed below. You MUST compare your existing unit to the product image before ordering.

Related valve part numbers that look slightly different from this one:

  • 31096
  • 31097

The 31096, 31097, and 31098 units are all interspersed amongst the compatible SKUs listed below. Careful visual comparison against product photos is essential to ensure you order the correct version for your specific furnace.

⚠️ Professional Installation Required

Installation involves propane gas connections, 12V DC electrical wiring, and integration with the furnace burner assembly. Because of the safety-critical nature of gas valve components, installation should be performed by a qualified RV service technician. Improper installation can result in gas leaks, fire, or explosion hazards. Always test all gas connections with leak detection solution before returning the furnace to service.

Questions & Answers

1 question answered about this part

  • What Replaces a Doorless Atwood 8535-IV DCLP Furnace?

The Dometic DFMD35121 is the closest replacement — same 35,000 BTU output, same doorless design, and similar duct cutouts and wiring. Expect minor gas line differences; there is no exact drop-in match for the Atwood DCLP series.
