Protect your RV water heater with the Suburban 525045 Pressure/Temperature Relief Valve. This 3/4" safety relief valve is the critical safety device that prevents dangerous pressure buildup in your water heater tank — opening automatically when pressure or temperature exceeds safe limits to prevent catastrophic tank failure. A small part that prevents a very expensive problem.

What This Valve Does

The pressure/temperature relief valve (often called a "T&P valve" or "PRV") is one of the most important safety devices on any water heater. As your RV water heater operates, pressure builds inside the tank from thermal expansion and external water pressure. The relief valve is engineered to open automatically when either of two conditions occurs:

  • Pressure exceeds 150 p.s.i.
  • Temperature exceeds 210°F

Without a functioning relief valve, excessive pressure or temperature can cause the water heater tank to fail — potentially violently. Modern T&P valves prevent that failure mode by venting excess pressure or hot water/steam to a safe location before tank damage occurs.

When to Replace the T&P Valve

Pressure/temperature relief valves are wear items that should be inspected regularly and replaced when:

  • The valve is leaking at the threads or vent (a leaking T&P valve indicates either over-pressure conditions OR a failed valve)
  • The valve has been operating for several years — most manufacturers recommend periodic replacement as a preventive measure
  • The lever doesn't operate properly when manually tested
  • The valve shows visible corrosion or scaling
  • You're servicing or replacing your water heater — a new T&P valve is cheap insurance

Suburban recommends manually testing the relief valve at least annually by lifting the lever momentarily — this verifies the valve is free to operate when needed.

Direct Replacement for SU161157

The 525045 is the direct replacement for the earlier Suburban SU161157 relief valve. If your existing valve shows that part number, this is the correct successor — same 3/4" threading, same 150 p.s.i. / 210°F opening setpoints, same form factor.

Universal Compatibility

The 525045 features a standard 3/4" threaded connection — compatible with most standard RV water heater models that use the standard 3/4" T&P valve port. Confirm your existing valve's connection size before ordering.

⚠️ Professional Installation Recommended

Water heater service should be performed by a qualified service technician. Improperly installed pressure relief valves can fail at critical moments, creating serious safety risks. Always test the new valve after installation per manufacturer instructions.
