Restore reliable ignition to your Suburban NT Series RV furnace with the Suburban 525029 OEM Igniter Electrode. This genuine Suburban replacement is the critical component in the furnace ignition system — receiving the high-voltage spark from the control board to ignite propane at the burner, AND simultaneously monitoring for flame presence as a safety check. When the electrode fails, the furnace either can't ignite at all or shuts down repeatedly after attempted starts.

Wide NT Series Furnace Compatibility

The 525029 fits an extensive range of Suburban NT Series furnaces. Compatibility splits into two groups:

Group 1: NT-12/16/20 Series — All Serial Numbers

  • NT-XXS Series: NT-12S, NT-16S, NT-20S
  • NT-XXSE Series: NT-12SE, NT-16SE, NT-20SE
  • NT-XXSQ Series: NT-16SQ, NT-20SQ
  • NT-XXSEQ Series: NT-16SEQ, NT-20SEQ

Group 2: NT-24/30/34 Series — Serial Numbers ABOVE 920500001 Only

  • NT-XX Series: NT-24, NT-30, NT-34
  • NT-XXS Series: NT-24S, NT-30S, NT-34S
  • NT-XXSP Series: NT-24SP, NT-30SP, NT-34SP

For the NT-24/30/34 group, verify your furnace's serial number is ABOVE 920500001 before ordering. If the serial number is at or below that cutoff, this 525029 is NOT the correct electrode for your furnace.

⚠️ NOT Compatible With Dual-Sense Electrode Setups

This is a single-sense electrode — it provides both spark generation and flame sensing through a single probe. It will NOT replace dual-sense electrodes on the furnace models listed above. If your existing setup uses a dual-sense electrode configuration (two separate components — one for spark, one for sensing), this is not the correct replacement. Verify your existing electrode configuration before ordering.

How Suburban Serial Numbers Work

Suburban serial numbering may not be intuitive — here's how to read them so you can verify compatibility:

All Suburban serial numbers manufactured after January 1990 are nine digits with embedded date coding:

  • First 2 digits: Year of manufacture
  • Next set of digits: Week of the year
  • Remaining digits: Sequential serial number

Important — read the year first, not the numerical order: A serial number like 912000060 is actually LOWER than serial 014103973, because "91" comes before "01" in manufacturing year sequence (1991 vs 2001). Don't compare serial numbers as plain numerical values — read the year code first.

Cross-Reference Part Numbers

The 525029 is the direct replacement for three earlier Suburban part numbers:

  • Replaces 231933
  • Replaces 231931
  • Replaces 525033

If your existing electrode shows any of those part numbers, this 525029 is the current production successor.

How the Igniter Electrode Works

The 525029 serves two critical functions in the furnace ignition cycle:

  1. Spark generation: Receives a high-voltage spark from the control board, which ignites propane at the burner when the furnace calls for heat
  2. Flame monitoring: The probe simultaneously monitors for the presence of flame and sends a signal to the control board confirming ignition. If no flame is detected, the control board attempts re-ignition or locks out the furnace as a safety measure.

This dual function — spark AND flame sensing in a single component — is what makes this a "single-sense" design. Different from dual-sense setups where spark and sensing are handled by separate components.

Common Failure Symptoms

Common reasons to replace the igniter electrode include:

  • No spark at the electrode tip when heat is demanded
  • Weak or intermittent spark
  • Furnace lights but immediately shuts off (failed flame sensing causing safety lockout)
  • Repeated ignition lockout after multiple failed attempts
  • Cracked or chipped ceramic insulator at the electrode
  • Carbon buildup or corrosion on the electrode tip
  • Visible damage to the electrode probe

If your furnace is failing to ignite reliably, the igniter electrode is one of the first parts to inspect and replace — these are wear items that degrade over time from thermal cycling and combustion exposure.

Genuine Suburban OEM Replacement

As a Suburban factory replacement part, the 525029 is built to original specifications for a precise drop-in fit in compatible NT Series furnace installations.

Paired Component — Replace the Gasket Too

Whenever you replace the igniter electrode, it's smart practice to also replace the electrode and burner door gasket — you've already opened the burner door for the electrode swap, and a fresh gasket is cheap insurance against air infiltration or combustion gas leaks. The matching gasket for NT Series furnaces is the Suburban 525011 Electrode Gasket — same NT Series compatibility, fits all the NT models this 525029 electrode covers.

⚠️ Professional Installation Recommended

Furnace ignition components should be installed and tested by a qualified RV service technician. Improperly installed gas furnace components are a fire and carbon monoxide safety risk. Always verify proper ignition operation and check for gas leaks after any furnace service.
